Mike joined the military in June 1976 just after graduation from high school were he had played a little baseball, did a little wrestling but his true calling was the army. A born soldier, he joined the military with the goal of retiring with Honors, settling on a small ranch with horses , children, grandchildren and dogs to roam the acreage and a loving wife by his side until he took his last earthly breath, in true Mike fashion, he did just that. He learned as a young boy working for the old farmers in Upstate New York, responsibility, giving your all, Integrity and honor in a mans word and handshake ,respect for others, and “An excuse only satisfies the person giving it”. He believed in God, family, caring for his fellow man and Country.
In his military career he was awarded numerous decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons before retiring as Master Sergeant, E7 :
MERITORIOUSSERVICE MEDAL (4THaward), ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL (2ndaward), ARMY ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL , ARMY GOOD CONDUCT METAL (8thaward),ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL, NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, OVERSEASSERVICE RIBBON (3rd award) and PARACHUTIST BADGE were among the many.
After Army retirement, Mike joined the team at Westinghouse ANCDF, Anniston Chemical Destruction Facility , as a PASS utility operator from where he retired at the plant closure. He then devoted even more time to travel, camping, kayaking, biking, hiking and his ranch, The Rockin R, with his horses, and beloved dogs, which most certainly, those that passed before him ,where all waiting to welcome him to heaven.
Mike was a Child of God , loving father, grandfather, true friend, natural born leader and man of honor . He was the most Loving, Caring, Kind Hearted, Giving, Full of Energy and Zest for life Husband a wife could have been blessed with.
